Last weekend John and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary at Novotel St Kilda – it’s unbelievable that most of this time was spent long distance with only seeing each other for a couple weeks of the year in total. But now that John’s living with me in Australia, we finally got to celebrate an anniversary together, and we did it in style.
I wasn’t really sure where to book our anniversary weekend for. I had considered an Airbnb, which is what we usually did, but decided a hotel might be a bit more fun for just two nights.
St Kilda is definitely one of my favourite suburbs in Melbourne. It’s truly beautiful – nice beach, palm trees everywhere, and Acland St is full of amazing shops, cafes, and live music venues. It’s just incredible. So, after looking into the Novotel St Kilda, I decided to book there, something I definitely did not regret.
From the second we arrived the staff were polite and so friendly. I’m a person who can be quite shy at times with new people but I felt at ease right away. From the front desk to the room service to the housekeeping, everyone was lovely to deal with and made our time even more enjoyable than it already was.
We headed up to our room – I had booked a standard room with a bay view – and got a delightful surprise. We had been upgraded to a one bedroom penthouse, and it was absolutely incredible – as you can see by these pictures!
The room itself was stunning, but the view was just as amazing. Across the street was an Oktoberfest festival being set up, so we had the view of a Ferris wheel and other rides, which complimented the scenery perfectly.
Last but not least, the towel origami. I’ve never stayed anywhere where they had this, and it honestly made my day seeing so many in one room! My favourite was the cute little elephant – I actually wish I was allowed to keep him! (Even if we were, I accidentally knocked it over with my pillow during the night… oops.)
After taking all the pictures that my heart desired, there was a knock on the door. A champagne bucket and chocolates were delivered, with a card wishing us a happy anniversary. It was so sweet and made John and I feel so special, again reiterating the happiness I felt at choosing Novotel over an Airbnb.
(As a side note, those chocolates were amazing.)
We spent the rest of the afternoon exploring St Kilda – but that will be in another post as I wanted to keep this one purely about Novotel, so keep an eye out for that! We returned to our lovely room and drank beers in the spa bath while watching The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air until we went to bed (which happened to be the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in), which was just the most perfect way to end the day.
The room service was another incredible aspect of our stay at Novotel St Kilda. We only had it for breakfast, because we were always out and about during the day and at dinner time, but hey – it’s my favourite meal of the day, and I was not disappointed.
Though I love to cook, and also love breakfast, I haven’t mastered the art of making french toast that isn’t either soggy or burnt. So of course, when I saw it on the menu (served with berries and maple syrup!), I had to choose it – and it was amazing! John chose the Eggs Benedict, which I didn’t try but he said it was delicious.
We got breakfast delivered to our room the next morning as well: this time I chose the smoked salmon, which was served with fried capers, sour cream, avocado pudding and two mini rolls. I am a huge salmon and avocado fan, so this breakfast was to die for. John chose a ham omelette which was served with grilled tomato, which he loved as well!
We also couldn’t resist getting one of their ‘Breakfast in a Glass’ options to share. We had been intrigued by this but didn’t decide to add it on until the last minute – lucky we did, because it was my favourite breakfast of our stay! Burnt bananas with waffle fingers and maple and vanilla yoghurt.
All in all, I can’t recommend Novotel St Kilda enough. We honestly had the most amazing time, and I need to thank everyone there so much for making our anniversary as special as it was.
