THE CUTEST TOWN IN MICHIGAN
As you might know from my post on Drury Inn & Suites, John and I visited Frankenmuth, Michigan back at the start of January. We drove the four or so hours from Toronto across the border, and into America. Neither of us had ever been to America before, so we were both ridiculously excited.
I chose to make Frankenmuth the destination of my first trip to the USA for a couple of different reasons. 1) I had always liked the thought of Michigan, due to the gorgeous lakes and scenery – it was also the location of an Adam Brody movie I enjoy (mainly because it’s Adam Brody, duh) called In The Land of Women. 2) I’m obsessed with cute, colourful buildings – and Frankenmuth is full of them. One quick search on pinterest, and I was hooked. 3) It’s in driving distance of Toronto, and I desperately wanted it to be a road trip. 4) And finally, Frankenmuth is home of the world’s largest Christmas store… and I love Christmas.
Side note: this will be a picture heavy post – my favourite!
Walking down Main Street was like something out of a movie. The buildings were all so quirky and beautiful, it was unlike anything I had ever seen before. The Christmas decorations paired with the snow was just simply lovely to see – especially because it never snows in Australia (apart from up at the mountains) and we definitely don’t go all out with the decorations like they did here. It gave me an overwhelming sense of happiness, and I honestly loved every second.
Honestly, have you ever seen such a cute building?! There were a few contenders, but this one was one of my favourites.
“And I said what about breakfast at Tiffany’s?”
We went into quite a few stores, which were just as lovely on the inside as they were on the outside. We visited Lazy Dog Pizza Co, Frankenmuth Fudge Kitchen, Frankenmuth Cheese Haus, Rapunzel’s Boutique, Frankenmuth River Place shops – which had a Yankee Candle store!!! – Bavarian Inn, and a couple of others. It was so cold that we kept ducking into stores for a few minutes just to warm up. I know what you’re thinking… “bloody aussies” but let me tell you, it was something like -25 degrees celsius there with wind chill… possibly even colder. My ears had surpassed the “numb” stage and were starting to burn! We bought quite a few fun little bits & pieces – you can see what we got in my Frankenmuth vlog. Spoiler: the garlic cheese dip is… amazing.
I honestly had the most amazing time exploring Frankenmuth. I never want to forget how happy I was at this moment, and how beautiful and exciting everything was. I’ve already made John promise that we’ll go back – but we’re planning on going during Spring, so all the flowers are out (and our ears won’t go numb!) I’m so in love with this place just after a couple of days, it’s really hard to describe the feeling it gave me. You can check more of Frankenmuth out on my vlog, along with where we stayed, what we ate, and what we bought:
Ignore my crazy eyes & John’s stalker face – we were being silly!
