BACON WRAPPED BRUSSELS SPROUTS
FAR OUT BRUSSELS SPROUT
Have you got a particular food that you always thought you hated as a kid, without ever actually trying it? Mine was brussels sprouts, I would constantly turn my nose up and refuse to eat them. I don’t know why I thought I hated them, they just kind of get a bad rep – I feel a little bad for them.
However, when trying them properly, I discovered they are actually delicious – especially when cooked properly. One of my favourites is to roast them in the oven with a little minced garlic, salt and pepper – so simple, yet so delicious. Another tasty way to eat them? Wrapped in bacon.
I feel like it’s almost impossible to not enjoy something that’s wrapped in bacon – unless, of course, you don’t like bacon… in which case, you may have clicked the wrong recipe! While obviously wrapping the brussels sprouts in bacon makes them less healthy, I think this recipe would be perfect for introducing good ol’ sprouts to a kid who may, like me, have turned their nose up at them otherwise.
- 12 brussels sprouts
- 12 strips of bacon
- sea salt, to taste
- cracked pepper, to taste
- Preheat oven to 190 degrees celsius and line a baking tray with aluminium foil
- Wash and dry your brussels sprouts, then place brussels sprout at one end of bacon, then roll up, so the whole strip of bacon is wrapped around the sprout. Repeat for all sprouts.
- Place bacon wrapped brussels sprouts on baking tray, then season with sea salt and cracked pepper. Bake for approximately 30-35 minutes, then serve with toothpicks.
It might not be the prettiest recipe out there, but it’s definitely one of the easiest and the tastiest! What’s a food that you hated until you actually tried it?
